Babyalpaca Los Andes

  • Yarn Notes
  • Yarn Specs
  • The Brand
  • Babyalpaca Los Andes is a pure, plump, cloud-soft chunky alpaca.

Spun from 100% baby alpaca fleece from the Andean highlands of Peru, this is a gloriously cosy bulky-weight yarn with that unmistakable alpaca feel: soft, warm, slightly fluffy, but surprisingly light for its thickness.

Properly snuggly, but still elegant. Think oversized cardigans, winter pullovers, soft hats, generous scarves, cowls, wraps, and layering pieces. Check out our Zigzag Cape Kits.

The structure is beautifully simple: a voluminous 2-ply which gives the yarn a lovely roundness on the needles. It knits up quickly, feels gorgeous in the hands, and creates an even, softly defined luxurious fabric.

It’s very good for texture, cables, ribs and simple stocking stitch. but works very well for a bit of colourwork too. Check out our Zigzag Cape kits!

[The term “baby alpaca” is used to refer to alpaca fibre with a fineness between 19 and 22 microns that is usually gained from the fleece of young alpacas, which have been raised with good nutrition and care. Adult alpacas usually have a limited amount of this this very fine fleece on their back.]

The palette is made up of beautiful calm, harmonious shades: elegant and timeless. Really great for layering!

This is proper cosy knitting. Big needles, sooooft fabric, fast progress, and very high “I’m never taking this off” potential.

The yarn is spun in Peru, keeping the fibre close to its origin and preserving the qualities that make baby alpaca so special: softness, warmth, lightness and strength.

Los Andes is part of Pascuali’s wider commitment to creating high-quality natural yarns with strong provenance. No novelty nonsense. No plastic pretending to be luxury. Just properly beautiful fibre, handled well.

This is a yarn for knitters who want softness, but not blandness. Warmth, but not bulk for the sake of it. Luxury, but in a quiet, natural, wearable way.
